Scholarships 2011 Description: Proposals are invited for the following initiatives:Specific short-term research projects, Conferences, Publishing Aid (only awarded for projects already being supported by the Foundation)Research projects application overview (Form for research project application description of the research proposal (max. 8 pages) work plan and time schedule, travel itinerary (if needed) detailed cost calculation (the specific funds being applied for must be precisely defined) curriculum vitae and list of publications of the applicant(s) if appropriate, curriculum vitae, publications and certificate(s) of university degree (or seminar attendance certificates for direct doctorades) of the proposed project coordinator and/or participant After having sent the electronic application form, we kindly ask you to send us a printout of the completed application form along with the other documents by mail.


Conferences
Applications for funding of a conference should contain the following documents:
application overview (= Form for research project application) conference concept list of speakers and subjects cost plan which provides information about the volume of funding the applicants can provide themselves and grants that have been promised by other supporting institutions (normally travel expenses and hotel expenses – no flat-rate daily allowance shall be paid)statement as to whether an identical or a comparable application has been submitted to any other funding body recently or at any time in the past.

After having sent the electronic application form, we kindly ask you to send us a printout of the completed application form along with the other documents by mail.

Publishing Aid :Publishing aid is currently only awarded for projects already being supported by the Foundation.Applications for printing aid are to include a two-page summary of the academic merit and innovativeness of the monograph/collection, at least two cost calculations from independent publishing houses and the manuscript on which the calculations have been made (this can also be provided on CD-ROM).

The International Scholarships Research Training Group 1023 Identification in Mathematical Models: Synergy of
Stochastic and Numerical Methods at the University of GÃ ttingen invites applications for
an immediately available 3-year (= 2-year + option for 1-year extension)

PhD Scholarships Position (Doktorandenstipendium/ DFG-scholarship).


The focus of our Biometrics research group (www.stochastik.math.uni-goettingen.de)
at the Institute for Mathematical Stochastics (IMS) is on the development of novel models
and methods for fingerprint recognition. Dissertation projects can interdisciplinary
combine the potentials of stochastics, statistics, numerics and computer science for
providing new solutions to exciting challenges in the coinciding areas of biometrics,
pattern recognition and image processing.

Essential qualifications are a master degree, diploma or a comparable degree in
mathematics, computer science or a related scientific field.
Preferred:
Good skills in written and spoken English
Programming skills (e.g. Java, C++, Matlab, R)
Experience in mathematical or statistical imaging
Background in geometry, pattern recognition or image processing is advantageous. We
expect creativity and independence, the ability to work and communicate within a team of
scientists from different disciplines.

The scholarship of the DFG Research Training Group 1023 are based on the support rate
granted by the DFG and amount to EUR 1365,- per month with a monthly supplement of
EUR 103,-.
The advancement of equality at the IMS goes without saying; in particular, we are striving
to increase the percentage of women in the science sector. Severely disabled persons with
equal qualifications will be considered preferentially within the framework of legal
requirements.

Postdoctoral Scholarship Germany Cooperation Visits Programme

The TWAS-DFG Cooperation Visits Programme, Postdoctoral Scholarship Germany

The TWAS-DFG Cooperation Visits Programme provides postdoctoral researchers from sub-Saharan Africa (excluding South Africa) with the opportunity to make a ‘Cooperation Visit’ to an institute in Germany of no more than 3 months.

Scholarship Description: Under this programme, researchers are assisted in making a ‘Cooperation Visit’ to an institute in Germany. Such visits will have a duration of no more than three (3) months and must be undertaken within 12 months of the award.

The aim of the visit is to discuss research collaboration with German scientists, possibly including some preliminary experiments, with the ultimate goal of developing longer-term collaboration, perhaps through other DFG programmes. TWAS will cover visa, health insurance and travel expenses, while DFG will provide subsistence costs for the stay in Germany. The administration and financial operation of TWAS is undertaken by UNESCO in accordance with an agreement signed by the two organizations.

Eligibility
* Applicants must hold a PhD: preference is given to young scientists (within 5 years of receiving their PhD).
* Applicants must be nationals of a sub-Saharan African country and hold a research position in sub-Saharan Africa.
* Nationals of South Africa, or those holding research positions in South Africa, are not eligible (applicants in South Africa, please see: www.dfg.de/dfg_profil/im_internationalen_kontext/internationale_partner/Suedafrika/index.html).
* Applicants already on site in Germany are not eligible.
* Women scientists are especially encouraged to apply.
