Researcher Scholarship at Department of Marine Environmental Technology
Research Scholarship Scientist/Engineer/Programmer in Environmental Modelling, Norway
Study Subject: Chemistry
Employer: SINTEF Institute for Materials and Chemistry,
Scholarship Level: Researcher
Scholarship Description: The department develops numerical models for response and decision support based on experimental studies and surveillance of acute and regular discharges of oil and chemicals to the marine and the terrestrial environment. The modelling tools are today used by oil companies, governments, and technical consultants worldwide. We are participating in several major projects where different internet technologies are used to make the models more available and usable for our customers.
The department consists of 40 employees working in new offices and laboratories in Trondheim. You will find more information about SINTEF Materials and Chemistry on our website: www.sintef.no
Your work tasks will be in projects supporting our research, especially aimed at the offshore industry. You will be working independently or in teams with other scientists, and often in close cooperation with the representatives from the industry. The main focus is always what the customer needs, and it is especially important to deliver the expected quality to the agreed time and price, and at the same time ensure/maintain the basic understanding and development of competence and knowledge. You should be organized and have good team qualities, good knowledge in English (and a third language?), and the ability to take initiative and acquaint yourself with new approaches to a problem.
The Marine Environmental Modelling group consists of three Senior Scientists, five Scientists, two Senior Engineers and one Technical Consultant.
We want to employ an engineer/programmer to work on the development of software (Java, FORTRAN and C++) based on mathematical models for solving environmentally related problems. The work will involve both design and development of new simulation tools and maintenance of existing models. Our models are presently in use by oil companies and governments throughout the world, and it is important to consolidate and strengthen our market in this area. In this connection, visualization of results plays an important role.
We seek candidates with initiative, flexibility and good technical skills, able to work both independently and in integrated project groups. We want a person with competence in software development and visualization of data. You have to like programming and also have experience with C++ and object oriented programming in general. Experience with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) will be an advantage. All applicants must have relevant university or university college education.
