Eligibility: The Faculty of Science and Engineering Entry Bursaries shall be open to competition among candidates who:

-have achieved a Very High Achievement in a subject or subjects in the disciplines taught by the Faculty, e.g. Mathematics, Physics, Geography, Information Technology or Geology

Scholarships Description: The Faculty offers 10 bursaries, each valued at $2,000, to school leavers who enrol as full-time students at James Cook University. The value of each of the ten bursaries shall be $2,000 or such amount as the Selection Committee determines from time to time. Each bursary shall be awarded for the first year of the recipients full-time undergraduate study, and shall be paid in two equal instalments on or about the 30th March and 30th August.

Scholarships Description: Beinecke Scholar receives a total of $34,000 in support of his or her graduate education. The initial payment of $4,000 is awarded directly to the student prior to entering graduate school. This award is intended to offset the costs associated with the graduate application process and to pay for travel expenses directly related to the start of graduated school. While in graduate school, a Beinecke Scholar will receive an additional $30,000 in support. These funds are awarded as a supplement to support provided by the graduate school and the award may be spread over up to five years to comply with institutional limits on the total amount of a student’s annual award. In the absence of institutional support or limits, scholars may receive a maximum award of $15,000 per year. These funds are sent directly to the financial aid officer of the institution where the student is enrolled and disbursed in accordance with the scholarship policy of the academic institution

Scholarships Description: All EDCTP-funded projects are undertaken in partnership with sub-Saharan African countries. The partnership ensures synergy and optimal use of resources, creating a win-win situation for all parties. Purpose of this grant Many sub-Saharan countries still lack competent ethical review capacities and in some cases this also applies to the national regulatory framework. The purpose of this grant is to: 1. Promote the establishment and strengthening of National Ethics Committees (NECs) and Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) that are competent and independent in sub-Saharan countries. The NECs and the IRBs are encouraged to establish themselves administratively and financially to ensure sustained optimal function beyond the EDCTP funding. Strengthening of NECs or IRBs aims at making them operational and gives support to their ongoing functions. Networking and training is encouraged and supported. Additional support in the form of online literature access, documentation, access to websites on ethics and GCP may be facilitated 2. Encourage IRBs in countries where NECs do not exist, to contribute to the formation of a NEC. Where neither NECs nor local IRBs exist, EDCTP will encourage nationally recognised institutions or scientists affiliated to an established in-country institution to be contacted, in order to initiate the formation of the NEC.

Scholarship Description: The Thematic Project “Generation of Alcohol Production Scenarios as Support for the Formulation of Public Policies Applied to the Adaptation of the National Sugar and Alcohol Industry to Climate Changes” , supported by the FAPESP Research Program on Global Climate Change – RPGCC, has a postdoctoral position available for a period of 24 months, at the Nucleus of Studies and Researches on Food – NEPA and CEPAGRI (Center for Meteorological and Climate Researches Applied to Agriculture), University of Campinas (UNICAMP – www.unicamp.br/unicamp/en). The selected researcher will be responsible for the following activities: i) Assess the evolution of the sugarcane productive chain and the production of fuels since the 90s; ii) Assess the evolution of agribusiness in Brazil also since the 90s and the national production of feed cultures, import and export of food with a comparison with the energetic necessities to satisfy the recommendations to the Brazilian population; iii) Construction of a national agribusiness profile and national sovereignty with the correlation of these data with the feed and nutritional security of the Brazilian population; iv) Co-supervise a scientific initiation student and support the elaboration of research reports during the development of the Project and the publication of results. The candidate should have experience in rural issues, in its economic (production and distribution) and social (employment, demographics, social participation and others) aspects, and be able to multi and interdisciplinary work, as this will be needed for the development of the research activities. It should also be fluent for making oral presentations and write scientific articles in English.
