Scholarship Description: The School of Modern Languages of the University of St Andrews is pleased to announce its programme of three one-year scholarships, each worth £5,000, to be awarded to suitably qualified candidates from the countries listed below for the academic year 2011-2012. The primary purpose of these scholarships is to enable students to complete a oneyear taught MLitt programme.


While priority may be given to students applying to the MLitt programme in Spanish and Latin American Studies, those interested in any other taught MLitt programme offered by the School of Modern Languages will be given due consideration and are also encouraged to apply. All MLitt programme involve two consecutive semesters of taught modules plus a period of research (from the beginning of June to the end of August) devoted to writing a 15,000-word dissertation under the supervision of a full-time academic member of staff. Decisions will be Made and communicated to candidates by 15 June. To be considered for an award, candidates must have been accepted to undertake one of the MLitt programme offered by the School of Modern Languages, beginning in September 2011. They must be nationals of (or permanently domiciled in) Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Venezuela or Spain. Scholarships 2011 Description: The Economic & Social Research Council is the main provider of postgraduate awards in the areas of economic and social sciences. The University of Leeds has been allocated a number of studentships as part of the White Rose Doctoral Training Centre (WR DTC), a major new collaboration between the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York with a total of 48 ESRC studentships per year over 5 years. The WR DTC is one of the largest consortia in the country and offers a wealth of supervisory expertise across the social sciences as well as numerous training opportunities, particularly focused upon maximising the social and economic benefits of research. These studentships are held in certain clusters/pathways and may be available on either a 1+3 or +3 basis (or a 2+2 or 2+5 basis in a more limited number of cases), depending on the chosen pathway.


Eligibility: Applicants MUST first submit a research degree study application form and be in receipt of a University BANNER ID Number to be eligible for a White Rose Research Studentship. Applications without a valid University ID Number will be rejected. To apply for a place on a research degree programme, Applicants must hold a First Degree at undergraduate level equivalent to at least a UK Upper Second Class Honours degree. Applicants should either have graduated with the appropriate First Degree or be in their final year of study; Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the University’s English Language requirements. Topics connected to de-construction of national myths, analyses of public policies concerning minorities and discussions over desired migration policy models form the core of the Summer school activities. Lectures and workshops held by highly qualified experts from the region has been complemented with topical study trips. The Summer school is organized in a historical building of the Janos Selye University.

The 2nd edition of the Summer School of Ethnicity and Migration Studies aims to create an alternative learning platform for advanced studies for MA Students, PhD students, young researchers, young public officials from countries of Central and Eastern Europe – Slovakia, Czech republic, Hungary, Poland, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Macedonia, Turkey, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbajdzan. Participants from other countries can participate on the Summer School as The working language of the School is English.Registration fee for successful candidates is 50 Euro. Scholarship Description: Applications from the fields of engineering and environmental science are invited for a research associate to work on an EU-FP7 funded project on life cycle analysis (LCA) of retrofit processes in shipyards. The successful candidate will work with partners of a large research consortium across Europe, identifying a suitable method/tool for the LCA, collecting and processing data, executing LCA simulation and analysing results. The candidate should have, or expect to have gained by the time of the appointment, a PhD or equivalent in an appropriate discipline, such as, marine technology, general engineering or environmental science. A developing publication record in peer-reviewed international journals is essential.



The candidate is expected to be highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential, as are proven abilities in project planning and time management. Experience in LCA will be desirable.

Scholarship Description: You will study the dynamics of excitons and charge carriers with femto second and nanosecond pump-probe laser techniques, including microwave and terahertz conductivity measurements. In addition, high-energy electron pulses may be used to specifically generate charges. You will study to what extent photo excitation of the polymer leads to generation of excitons and free charges. The relation between material structure and charge mobility will be investigated. Exciton diffusion and dissociation into mobile charges will be studied for blends of the polymers with electron acceptors. The research will provide information about the mechanism of motion of excitons and charges.


Candidates must have a PhD degree in physics or chemistry, and ideally have experience with time-resolved spectroscopy.

Scholarships Description: In recognition of the crucial role that Science and Technology plays in socio-economic development, the IDB has, over the years, diversified and increased its assistance to its member countries in this area.

While the IDB continued to direct its efforts and financing to capacity-building, procurement of equipment and establishment of infrastructure in S&T applications, it has realized the necessity to develop a leading scientific elite among S&T institutions in member countries through the pursuit of excellence.

II. Purpose and Objectives
1. The IDB Prizes for Science & Technology are expected to encourage merit institutions and to promote competition among S&T institutions; the prizes would further herald the commitment of the IDB to implement forward-looking policies and integrate advanced S&T applications in the overall development agenda of its member countries. The objectives of the IDB Prizes for Science and Technology are as follows:
2. to promote a sound and fruitful competition among the S&T education and research institutions in its member countries for achieving excellence;
3. to encourage and support the successful institutions in this competition;
4. to raise awareness among decision-makers and intellectuals about the present and potential contribution of S&T to sustainable development; and
5. to highlight S&T related policies and contribution of the IDB.

III. Prize Categories
The IDB Science and Technology Prizes scheme consists of three (3) prizes awarded on the occasion of the Annual Meeting of the IDB Board of Governors. Each prize will consist of a cash award of one hundred thousand (100,000) US dollars, a trophy and a certificate mentioning the name of the winner and its accomplishments.

The Prizes are awarded only to institutions (not to individuals) in IDB member countries in the following categories:
Category 1:Outstanding scientific or technological contribution to the socio-economic development of a member country.

Category 2:Outstanding contribution to any of the following scientific disciplines: Engineering Sciences; Agriculture; Medicine; Biotechnology; Information Technology; Optoelectronics; Material Sciences; Pharmaceutical Sciences; Industrial Microelectronics; alternative Energy Sources and Nanotechnology.

Category 3:Noted scientific research institutions in the IDB Least Developed Member Countries (LDMCs).

Scholarships Study The Office of Academic Exchange Programs in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U. S. Department of State, is pleased to announce a new exchange program for undergraduate students-the 2012 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD)


Scholarships The Global UGRAD Program provides scholarships for one semester or one academic year of U.S. Study in a NON-DEGREE Program. The goals of the program are to provide a diverse group of emerging student leaders, from non-elite and underrepresented groups in Indonesia and East Asia.

Scholarships All global UGRAD Program participants will be enrolled full-time in undergraduate course work chosen from the institution’s (US) existing curriculum to allow students ample opportunity for ongoing interaction with U.S. Faculty and student peers, and for exposure to U.S. academic and classroom culture.

Scholarships To ensure that students succeed in their new academic environments, host institutions will offer tailored instruction on topics including academic research and writing, critical thinking, time management, note taking, and studying for and taking tests. Participants will live on campus with American peers.

Scholarships Students will also be provided with opportunities to participate in up to ten hours of community service per semester. Additionally, an internship component will be offered to all academic-year participants during the academic component of the program. Internships will be related to each participant’s field of study and/or career plans.

Participants may be eligible for up to 4 weeks of intensive English Language instruction in the United States prior to the start of academic portion of their program.

Scholarships Eligibility:
Scholarships will be granted to students who currently are enrolled in S-1 degree programs only, and have completed their first semester and up to their firth semester of undergraduate study at an Indonesian university.
Applicants should demonstrate leadership potential through academic work, community involvement, and extracurricular activities.

Applicants must have minimum institutional TOEFL score of 500-score or IELTS 5.0 less than two years old. In some cases a personal interview by a fluent qualified Native English Speaker who can confirm that the nominee would be able to achieve that score when tested is acceptable. Candidates must also meet all the requirements of the institution where admission is being sought.

Preference will be given to those who have had little or NO experience in the U.S. or outside of their home countries.
Applications can be for either for one semester or two semesters based on nominee’s availability. No applications should be submitted for both one semester and full year programs.
Applicants are required to return to Indonesia after the completion of the one or two semester program.
