Scholarship Description: The School of Modern Languages of the University of St Andrews is pleased to announce its programme of three one-year scholarships, each worth £5,000, to be awarded to suitably qualified candidates from the countries listed below for the academic year 2011-2012. The primary purpose of these scholarships is to enable students to complete a oneyear taught MLitt programme.
While priority may be given to students applying to the MLitt programme in Spanish and Latin American Studies, those interested in any other taught MLitt programme offered by the School of Modern Languages will be given due consideration and are also encouraged to apply. All MLitt programme involve two consecutive semesters of taught modules plus a period of research (from the beginning of June to the end of August) devoted to writing a 15,000-word dissertation under the supervision of a full-time academic member of staff. Decisions will be Made and communicated to candidates by 15 June. To be considered for an award, candidates must have been accepted to undertake one of the MLitt programme offered by the School of Modern Languages, beginning in September 2011. They must be nationals of (or permanently domiciled in) Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Venezuela or Spain. The University of Leeds has been allocated a number of studentships as part of the White Rose Doctoral Training Centre (WR DTC), a major new collaboration between the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York with a total of 48 ESRC studentships per year over 5 years. The WR DTC is one of the largest consortia in the country and offers a wealth of supervisory expertise across the social sciences as well as numerous training opportunities, particularly focused upon maximising the social and economic benefits of research. These studentships are held in certain clusters/pathways and may be available on either a 1+3 or +3 basis (or a 2+2 or 2+5 basis in a more limited number of cases), depending on the chosen pathway.
Eligibility: Applicants MUST first submit a research degree study application form and be in receipt of a University BANNER ID Number to be eligible for a White Rose Research Studentship. Applications without a valid University ID Number will be rejected. To apply for a place on a research degree programme, Applicants must hold a First Degree at undergraduate level equivalent to at least a UK Upper Second Class Honours degree. Scholarship Description: Applications from the fields of engineering and environmental science are invited for a research associate to work on an EU-FP7 funded project on life cycle analysis (LCA) of retrofit processes in shipyards. The successful candidate will work with partners of a large research consortium across Europe, identifying a suitable method/tool for the LCA, collecting and processing data, executing LCA simulation and analysing results. The candidate should have, or expect to have gained by the time of the appointment, a PhD or equivalent in an appropriate discipline, such as, marine technology, general engineering or environmental science. A developing publication record in peer-reviewed international journals is essential.
The candidate is expected to be highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential, as are proven abilities in project planning and time management. Experience in LCA will be desirable.

Scholarships Study The Office of Academic Exchange Programs in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U. S. Department of State, is pleased to announce a new exchange program for undergraduate students-the 2012 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD)
Scholarships The Global UGRAD Program provides scholarships for one semester or one academic year of U.S. Study in a NON-DEGREE Program. The goals of the program are to provide a diverse group of emerging student leaders, from non-elite and underrepresented groups in Indonesia and East Asia.
Scholarships All global UGRAD Program participants will be enrolled full-time in undergraduate course work chosen from the institution’s (US) existing curriculum to allow students ample opportunity for ongoing interaction with U.S. Faculty and student peers, and for exposure to U.S. academic and classroom culture.
Scholarships To ensure that students succeed in their new academic environments, host institutions will offer tailored instruction on topics including academic research and writing, critical thinking, time management, note taking, and studying for and taking tests. Participants will live on campus with American peers.
Scholarships Students will also be provided with opportunities to participate in up to ten hours of community service per semester. Additionally, an internship component will be offered to all academic-year participants during the academic component of the program. Internships will be related to each participant’s field of study and/or career plans.
Participants may be eligible for up to 4 weeks of intensive English Language instruction in the United States prior to the start of academic portion of their program.
Scholarships Eligibility:
Scholarships will be granted to students who currently are enrolled in S-1 degree programs only, and have completed their first semester and up to their firth semester of undergraduate study at an Indonesian university.
Applicants should demonstrate leadership potential through academic work, community involvement, and extracurricular activities.
Applicants must have minimum institutional TOEFL score of 500-score or IELTS 5.0 less than two years old. In some cases a personal interview by a fluent qualified Native English Speaker who can confirm that the nominee would be able to achieve that score when tested is acceptable. Candidates must also meet all the requirements of the institution where admission is being sought.
Preference will be given to those who have had little or NO experience in the U.S. or outside of their home countries.
Applications can be for either for one semester or two semesters based on nominee’s availability. No applications should be submitted for both one semester and full year programs.
Applicants are required to return to Indonesia after the completion of the one or two semester program.
