Eligibility:

• Applicant must have genuine interest in Japan.
• He/ She must be physically healthy.

Scholarships 2011 Description: The Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JCCI) Singapore Foundation, in cooperation with Waseda University in Japan, set up a one-year scholarship program for university undergraduates to study culture, history, society, politics, economics, geography, arts, literature and so forth of Japan and other parts of Asia. The scholarship program was established in 1995 to commemorate Singapore’s 30th Year of National Independence and the 5th Anniversary of JCCI Singapore Foundation. The Foundation hopes to provide young Singaporeans an opportunity to study in Japan through this program. Also, it wishes to promote further exchanges and cooperation between Singapore and Japan. The successful candidate is thus expected to play the role of a diplomat with the task of strengthening the bilateral relations.

The successful candidate holds a relevant degree in Molecular/Cellular Biology Biochemistry, Pharmacy or a similar field. Interest or previous experience in standard cell- and molecular biological work is desired.
Very good English and German communication skills are expected since we are an international group and the candidates are encouraged or obliged to contribute to the teaching activities at the pharmacy centre (depending on the position filled). We expect high motivation and commitment, very good analytical skills and quick perception.

Topics currently available deal with a) natural products and their impact on growth factor-activated cell signalling, cell cycle regulation, and the proteasomal system; b) PPARs and cardiovascular disease; c) aging and immunology

The purpose of this grant is to: 1. Promote the establishment and strengthening of National Ethics Committees (NECs) and Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) that are competent and independent in sub-Saharan countries. The NECs and the IRBs are encouraged to establish themselves administratively and financially to ensure sustained optimal function beyond the EDCTP funding. Strengthening of NECs or IRBs aims at making them operational and gives support to their ongoing functions. Networking and training is encouraged and supported. Additional support in the form of online literature access, documentation, access to websites on ethics and GCP may be facilitated 2. Encourage IRBs in countries where NECs do not exist, to contribute to the formation of a NEC. Where neither NECs nor local IRBs exist, EDCTP will encourage nationally recognised institutions or scientists affiliated to an established in-country institution to be contacted, in order to initiate the formation of the NEC.
