2011 Scholarships News Info Beasiswa S2 from Clinical Diabetes and Epidemiology Department of the BakerIDI Heart and Diabetes Institute is offering a PhD scholarship focused on the epidemiology of diabetes, obesity and/or cardiovascular disease. A broad range of projects are available and could include epidemiological modelling of the impact of diabetes and obesity on cardiovascular disease rates in Australia; diabetes and cancer or environmental exposure and chronic disease.

Beasiswa 2011 Science Postgraduate Scholarship Engineering Technology, Government of Ireland

Postgraduate Scholarship The Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology (IRCSET) ‘EMBARK’ Initiative and the Enterprise Partnership Scheme (EPS) offer opportunities for suitably qualified individuals to pursue a postgraduate degree by research. The Scheme supports basic research in the broad areas of Science, Engineering and
Technology.



The online application system opens on Wednesday 12th January 2011 for individuals hoping to begin postgraduate research in the Republic of Ireland in 2011. Individuals awarded under the scheme must maintain their principal residence in the Republic of Ireland during the term of the Scholarship. Scholarships must be held at a recognised Higher Education Institution within the Republic of Ireland. Individuals wishing to carry out postgraduate research by registering in Higher Education Institutions outside the Republic of Ireland are not eligible to apply for funding.


Scholarships are awarded only to those who will engage full-time in research during the period of the award.
While a majority of postgraduate Scholarships awarded by the Council are offered to European Union (EU) citizens, or to those who are ordinarily resident within a member state of the EU, a proportion of awards are also offered to exceptional candidates who are ordinarily resident in non EU member states.


The Award
Successful applicants may be offered the Scholarship as follows:

Masters
Period of Funded Research: 12 months
Total Amount of Grant: €24,000
Grant may be used for a period of: 18 months


Integrated Masters/ Ph.D.
Period of Funded Research: 18 months
Total Amount of Grant: €36,000
Grant may be used for a period of: 18 months

PhD.
Period of Funded Research: 36 months
Total Amount of Grant: €72,000
Grant may be used for a period of: 48 months


Eligibility
IRCSET’s schemes support basic research in the broad areas of Science, Engineering and Technology. Research which is deemed not to fall within this remit is not eligible for funding.

Under this scheme IRCSET offers opportunities for suitably qualified individuals to pursue a postgraduate degree by research in a recognised third-level institution.
The IRCSET postgraduate competition does not accept applications from:
a. Those currently registered as Ph.D. candidates
b. Those currently registered for a Masters degree (by research) with the exception of:
i. Individuals in the Institute of Technology (IOT) sector in receipt of Strand 1 funding wishing to transfer to the Ph.D. register (in this case, IRCSET will support these individuals for up to a maximum of 2 years i.e. total postgraduate funded research including strand 1 funding cannot exceed 3 years)
ii. Individuals registered for a Masters degree (by research) intending to complete and submit for this award and begin a significantly new research proposal to PhD. level

Marie Curie Actions-CQM-Postdoctoral Scholarship Programs Welcome II, Portugal

The Scholarship Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) of Portugal is pleased to announce the launch of the WELCOME II Programme for postdoctoral applicants , targeting the mobility of European researchers in Third Countries to join institutions in Portugal.

Scholarship Description: CQM applications for the FCT “Welcome II Portugal” Programme which targets the recruitment of Post-doc researchers (Marie Curie Fellows) of any Member State/Associated Country nationality living and carrying out research for the past 3 years in Third Countries (such as USA, Japan or China) to join institutions in Portugal, by signing 3-year employment contracts with their host institution.

Canditates interested in having CQM as a host institution, must apply in the following areas: Natural Products and/or Materials/Nanomaterials/Nanochemistry.

Who should apply Scholarship?
Post-Docs residing in Third Countries (such as USA, Japan, China) for the last three years having the nationality of a EU Member State or FP7 Associated Country with strong expertise (and CV) in the synthesis of nanomaterials for electronics and/or biochemical applications (prefereably with expertise in dendrimers synthesis and characterization).
