The VIB International Ph.D. Program is aimed towards all non-Belgians, currently living abroad. Candidates should hold a university degree, or satisfy equivalent requirements, which is sufficient to start a doctoral program at a Flemish university. This means that applicants must hold a 5-year University degree, or equivalent, in life sciences (e.g. biology, biochemistry, biotechnology), physics, engineering, chemistry, or related fields. In general, this implies that the applicant has a Masters degree. Applicants, who have not yet received their degree at the time of the application deadline, can also apply, but a final certificate of the degree is needed no later than 2 months after the selection interviews.

Applicants must have completed a higher education degree of computer science or areas related to distributed computing in the M.Sc. level of the European LMD system (300 ECTS credits), or equivalent academic qualifications from an internationally recognized university. Excellent grades from courses in distributed systems, operating systems, networking, programming languages, computer architectures, and theory of computing are expected.

Scholarship Description: EMJD-DC intends to become a permanent reference model for international doctoral studies in Distributed Systems and beyond. Students carry out their research work over up to four years in two universities from different countries, with additional mobility to industry in most projects. Joint training schools will cover both scientific topics and transferable skills, such as project and scientific management, communication, innovation techniques. EMJD-DC will initially award double degrees, however a task will study pathways to the implementation of a Joint Degree.
